Besides the natural attractions the national park also boasts with really interesting historical sights, among which we point out Jaruga, Europe’s oldest hydroelectric power plant.
Needles to say all of these points of interest are covered and further elaborated with a guided tour which also includes local watermills, traditional workshops and exhibitions. Krka also offers plenty of space and opportunities for you to relax, grab a meal or spend your time roaming around and taking photos of the magnificent landscape.
Once we depart from the national park a boat will take us to the nearby town of Skradin. Even though the boat trip is not long, during the course of its journey you get to experience from firsthand perspective how the river meanders through the canyon with steep cliffs marking the path on each side.
Skradin is a delightful small town located at the spot where Krka river meets the sea. It is one of the oldest known settlements in Croatia. Archeological studies confirmed that the first humans settled this area around 6000 years ago. Today it is a very charming place and home to one of Croatia’s most beautiful yacht marinas. Visitors can explore local historical sights such as several catholic and orthodox churches and they can likewise try out the local cuisine in one of many restaurants around town.
The next stop on the tour is Šibenik, a picturesque city of great historical significance. It was the first settlement on the Adriatic coast established by Croats. Today it is the third biggest city in Dalmatia proudly displaying its incredible historical heritage to inquisitive travellers. The amazing cathedral of Saint James as well as powerful Venetian fortresses dominating the city are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List and definitely landmarks which deserve to be visited. The labyrinth of narrow streets in the city center is also filled with cool bars and vintage restaurants which will most certainly attract your attention and make your visit to Šibenik a memorable one.
