Klis Fortress Tour Highlights

In addition to educational and entertainment facilities, visitors to the Klis Fortress can explore the Oprah Tower, the most important medieval watchtower of the fortress, and the Armory, a former arms depot.

Another highlight is the Prince’s House, which was built in the mid-17th century and subsequently restored.

A visit to Klis Fortress wouldn’t be complete without exploring St. Vitus Church. It is one of the most beautiful buildings of the entire complex, which (as it was converted into an Islamic Mosque after the Ottomans took over the fortress) stands out as one of the few examples of Islamic architecture in the region of Dalmatia.

Looking around the fortress, you will notice that it has been renovated and rebuilt multiple times in history. The Turks, Venetians, French and Austrians adapted it to their ever changing military needs.

The last stage of the story is taken over by the “Game of Thrones” series which was partly filmed at this location. The streets of Meereen from the 3rd season were filmed at Klis Fortress and Diocletian’s Palace in Split!
